Duquesne Light Company Recognizes Future Lineworkers at Graduation Event
24 Students Earn Electrical Distribution Technology Certificate; Welcome Incoming Class
PITTSBURGH – Duquesne Light Company celebrated the graduation of 24 students from its Electrical Distribution Technology (EDT) program on Aug. 5 at its Woods Run Training Facility on the North Shore. The program is a partnership between the company and the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), and provides training for entry-level skilled craft positions associated with the electric utility industry. Students who graduate the program have an opportunity for employment at Duquesne Light.
“As a former EDT student, I can say from experience that this program helps individuals launch their career in the electric utility industry,” said Ben Cain, Manager, Workforce Development, Duquesne Light. “We value individuals who successfully complete this program and graduates have an opportunity to be considered for a position at the company.”
The company event also marked the start of the 2017-18 EDT program and welcomed 22 new students who begin the program today. Duquesne Light once again awarded full-tuition scholarships to three of its incoming students. The 2017-18 program also will offer students a five-week rotational paid internship at the end of the first semester, as well as a two-month paid internship at the end of the second semester, where students will be placed in a department within the company.
The Company’s EDT program first began in the fall of 2002 and has since evolved into a one-year program completed entirely at Duquesne Light facilities in which graduates earn a Certificate of Electrical Distribution Technology and 44 credits towards a 64 credit Associate’s Degree from CCAC. Those interested in learning more about the program and reviewing the selection criteria should visit the EDT page at duquesnelight.com/about/careers.
